Hospice of Michigan Receives $7,500 Grant from Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation to Support Gestures of Grace Fund

Funds to help provide simple, yet meaningful ways to support patients and their families to enhance both physical and emotional quality of life

PETOSKEY, Mich. (Jan. 3, 2025) – Hospice of Michigan recently received a $7,500 grant from The Marjorie A. Winnell Healing Center Fund for Complementary Medicine of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation to support the Gestures of Grace fund to enhance patients’ quality of life in their final days.

The Gestures of Grace Fund, part of Hospice of Michigan’s Open Access program, goes beyond traditional medical care by alleviating the physical and emotional burdens uninsured or under-insured patients and their families face during hospice care. The fund addresses essential non-medical needs not covered by insurance, through services like comfort items, utility assistance, housing necessities and emergency transportation.

“We are deeply thankful for the generosity of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation,” said Roxanne Kiesling, director of philanthropy-grants at Hospice of Michigan. “Their contributions from The Marjorie A. Winnell Healing Center Fund for Complementary Medicine allow us to turn compassion into action. Our Gestures of Grace fund aims to provide more than care – it lets us create meaningful moments and lasting comfort for patients and families when it matters most.”

This fund is made possible in part by a grant from the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation. Their mission is to help generous donors and innovative nonprofits come together to create positive change in Emmet County.

The Petoskey- Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation awards grants through a competitive application and review process. Information on these grant rounds and how to apply can be found at www.phsacf.org.
