Eagles for Children (a fund of the Local Impact Alliance) grant will support not-for-profit’s Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Dec. 13, 2023) – Hospice of Michigan was recently awarded with a $11,750 grant from Eagles for Children (a fund of the Local Impact Alliance), in support of Jo Elyn Nyman Anchors Programs for Children. Oakland Hills Country Club donated $4,000, and Orchard Lake Country Club donated $7,750 towards the not-for-profit’s pediatric hospice program.
Hospice of Michigan is the only statewide hospice providing specialized pediatric hospice services in southeast Michigan. The not-for-profit’s Anchors Programs for Children offers a full continuum of pediatric services with specially trained staff that provide medical, social, spiritual and emotional support to help families navigate difficult situations. Services include a perinatal program, pre-hospice support, and a pediatric hospice program to help those dealing with life-limiting conditions. The program is available to children and their families upon the child’s diagnosis and delivers comprehensive care while allowing curative treatment to be sought.
Anchors Programs for Children is serves pediatric patients and their families throughout Michigan. Funds from the grant will supplement reimbursement for an additional pediatric patients ensuring that they receive the care they need. Unlike adult hospice patients, pediatric patients are chronically ill for much of their lives and present complicated symptoms, require specialized nursing care and equipment, and have extensive medication needs.
“Although each child’s diagnosis and treatment are different and often unpredictable, our goal remains the same—to provide exceptional end-of-life care and support for the child and their family regardless of their age, diagnosis or ability to pay,” said Barbara Anderson, statewide director of philanthropy for Hospice of Michigan. “With the ever-rising need for additional support throughout the community, this grant from Eagles for Children (a fund of the Local Impact Alliance) will help us to provide pediatric services to families in need.”
In 2022, Hospice of Michigan served 57 children statewide through Jo Elyn Nyman Programs for Children. For more information, please visit anchors4children.org.
